Lord of the Flies

Epilogue

After docking on a military base in the United Kingdom, and receiving a full check up, all the boys were taken into a room, followed by some official looking men and a women.

Jack, Ralph, and many of the other boys including Sam and Eric sat in a room colorless room, with two military officials, and a therapist. No one dared to speak first. The adults had no idea why the boys would not speak. They seemed to be scarred, or traumatized. Jack looked at the ground, next to Roger, while Ralph gave him a deathly stare. It was not an angry stare. It was one of disbelief. Sam and Eric, the twins, now sat to Ralphs left. They did not dare look up from the ground from fear of making eye contact with Ralph or with Jack. The room was deadly silent

The two military men were contrasting, one wearing a standard issue uniform, looking quite younger than the older officer who was decorated in many medals and titles. The older officer gave the women a look, and she began. “Boys, we understand that you may not be ready to talk, but this is a matter of national importance. Did you notice and details about the crash? Maybe what the plane that shot you down looked like; Any symbols or markings on it?” she asked, loud enough for everyone in the room to hear. Not a single person’s expression or stance changed. “Boys, listen. This is an important issue! We are investigating what happened and its urgent. What about while on the island? Did you notice any planes or carriers go by while you were stranded?” she asked this time with a little more request in her voice. Ralph looked up with tears in his eyes, and looked into the soul of Jack. “ Why couldn't you just keep the signal fire going!”  exclaimed Ralph accusingly. The looks of confusion that filled the faces of the uninformed tore through the group like shrapnel. They all knew what Ralph had meant.

Suddenly, out of all of the boys, it was Roger who spoke. “It wasn't his fault. Quit yelling at him.” he practically growled at Ralph. “You shut your dirty mouth Ral-” was all that Ralph could spit back at Roger before he was on his feet with his chair raised above his head. He brought it down full force onto Ralphs head. Blood spurted from his skull, and Jack let a wicked smile escape. The twins seemed to show any remorse either. The two guards subdued Roger. He tried fighting back, but he was no match. He was no longer one of the biguns. The therapist had a look of fear on her face but didnt dare speak. The other boys just looked to each other for a reaction. It was clear that they would never be the same again.

Imagine over three-hundred thousand square feet packed full of exotic and fully aquatic animals! One of my treasured memories is the day i went to the Tulsa Aquarium. I went with my friend Cody Foltz and it was a crazy day! The day kicked off off when we went and ate so much food!

We were in the food court and we ordered about fifty dollars worth of food! Not only was it a plethora of food, but it was gone in a matter of minutes! We ate about 5 meals between the two of us.

After fueling up on junk food, our day was about to begin. We had over three-hundred thousand feet to cover, and two floors! We first went to the museum part and looked at two frogs humping. Cody enjoyed that part. We then moved to the touch tanks and touched some shrimp! They also had star fish, sting rays, and baby sharks! It was so much fun! The little fish were friendly and liked being petted.

We walked around and looked at a bunch of exhibits and tanks filled with oddities. They had everything from electric eels, to octopi, and even two-hundred pound Alligator Snapping Turtle! They were tanks next to tanks, next to tanks! Every four feet was a new odditie!

They also had a mammal exhibit which was in interesting. They had a few possums and raccoons and even an awesome, trick-doing river otter! None of them compared to the beavers! The beavers were roughly the size of a bear cub. They also looked very angry that we were teasing them. These facts did not deter Cody, who decided he wanted to “pet” them. I personally had to pull him of of the glass, that was keeping him out of the exhibit. That definitely wouldn't have ended well.

The day started to wind down and we started to chill. The aquarium had a huge full size shark exhibit that you could walk through! We laid down in it and watch the sharks swim around. It was pretty romantic if you ask me. The clear glass and shimmering water made the experience epic. On the way home we both fell asleep. It was one of the best days ever.

Combine the powerful word and text ability of Microsoft, and the reliability and productivity of Apple, and what do you get? Google chrome. I am going to be giving a review over Google's new Chrome software. Im going to critique it on it’s reliability, its mobility, and its other bonuses.

First off, Chrome always saves. Unlike Microsoft Office, it saves automatically. Also, its secure. You can share a document with someone, and you can control how much control they have. All your information, from your email to your presentations, is under one account. It has all the same typing and text abilities, making it a top contender. Google has shown it can be reliable anytime.

Another great quality of this software is its mobility. When I say its mobile, it also means its availability is widespread. You can run it on your Mac, your Chromebook, your tablet, your phone, and many more! You can access your documents, emails, and presentations anywhere in the world. A person can edit your document from another country. It is one of the best uses of the world wide web.

Lastly, has many other special perks and bonuses. You can sync your contacts, your dates inot the calendar, and even create your own site.  They give out scholarships to kids, and people in need. They have Google Slides, which is just like Microsoft Powerpoint. They also have a laptop, that uses Chrome flawlessly. They even have their own app store. They have their own web browser and search site. Also, if you sign up, you automatically get your own Youtube account. When you close a tab, it terminates everything, but at the same time letting everything else on Google run continuously. Also an amazing feature, is that there is no pop-ups, but instead they open up in a minimized tab! No more web surfing interruptions. You can customize the entire software, making it your own.

All in all, Google has scored big in recent years. They have built a tremendous franchize out of their name. They have an average of four stars out of five, but i would personally give them a solid five. I can see the company going places in the near future, especially with advancing technology, such as the newest invention, the Google Glasses. All I am saying is, watch out for Google in the coming years. They are on the rise.

There were once two young monkeys in the jungle of South America. Their names were Ty and Runu. The two of them came from very different backgrounds.

Runu came from a very prideful family, surrounded by family and supportive elders. His mother and father retrieved his food, helped him climb trees, and lead him to water. He didn't have to struggle at all. His life was taken care of and he was very spoiled because of it. He frankly didn't have worry in the whole wide world. His life consisted of lounging, and playing. He was a little withdrawn but thats it.

His counterpart and also best friend, Ty, came from a totally different background. He and his mother were banished from the monkey troop, and were forced into the outskirts of the jungle. His mother taught him at an early age the definition of work and struggle. Growing up alone, he had to learn on his own. He learned all his skills, from climbing, to swimming and to foraging, from his soul mother.

Although the two youngsters were very different, as the old saying goes, opposites attracted, and they were best friends. Since Ty and his mother were banished, Runu met ty in a secluded area and they would laugh and good around, such as all youngsters do. They were both always sad as they had to part ways before nightfall.

As they grew though, they learned that their friendship wasn't as perfect as they thought. Ty envied Runu’s life. He wished him ands his mother didn't have to struggle. He was strong and lean due to his countless years of constant surviving, while Runu and his family thrived. Their differences showed when they went exploring and encountered problems. Runu relied on others his entire life.

Years went by and two had drifted apart. One day the two met by chance. They were both on their own since they had grown old enough, but it seemed as though the faces had changed. Ty’s once slim body was now muscular and bulky. He had no trouble making it in the jungle after his mother had taught him all he had needed to know to survive. Runu on the other hand seemed to have been struggling. All the years he had spent pampered did nothing to prepare him for his life. The young monkey was having trouble making it. Runu would have trouble finding a mate if he could not provide for her. Runu opened his mouth to speak  before continuing and said “Ty it is obvious who was the winner in the long run of our lives. My only regret is not helping you or your mother when I had the chance.” And with those last words, they crossed paths, switching sides, and never meeting again.

The world was still dark. The only light that revealed him and I came from the flames flickering all around us. He had brought destruction to our land. Everyone wanted him gone. I had to finish him.

I walked up to his slightly charred body. His porcelain mask still remained egg shell white despite all the blows he had taken. He was laying there, unmoving, frozen in a wicked pose. A name embroidered into his unfamiliar uniform read Skyline. I wondered were the man, or thing, had came from. He had brought so much havoc in a short amount of time. Hundreds of lives lost. I felt responsible too. Me, an Overwatch, had allowed this to happen. I admit that he was much stronger and more powerful than I had expected. Maybe even more powerful than me. He had taken out 3 other Overwatches, as if they were nothing. I had to take him out right then and now. Before he awoke, and began his destructive path.

I walked to his body. It was still sprawled out after the last blow i delivered. He didn't seem to be breathing, but there was no way to be sure; I had no idea what this thing was. His body appeared to be humanoid of some type. All his features, down to the fingernails, were human. His suit covered his entire body except to his wrists, ankles, and just below the neck. I took out my blade to examine him. I used the tip to try and slide off his white mask. He quickly retaliated.

The sound he made when he scrambled to his feet was wild. The sound could only be described as a large jungle cat being enraged, but many of those animals had long been annihilated. His mask remained upon his face as the eye holes began to emit a sharp blinding light. The light seemed to illuminate the darkness he had brought with him. the brightness was  too much to bare. I had to shield my eyes but the immense heat burned my flesh. I couldn't handle it much longer; I collapsed and couldn't get up.

When I opened my eyes and the burning sensation had subsided, it was day. The music that had been playing in my head was stopped, but i dull throb replaced it. I was surrounded by other Overwatches, all looking for survivors. I knew whatever that thing was, it was not friendly.

Have you ever noticed as you walk down the sidewalk the plethora of cracks and crevices that cover the forever long concrete? The same concrete that is the structure of our very society. Our ever expanding world is decorated with concrete. You can call it any amount of names, but a good commonly used word, is The Concrete Jungle. A place supposed to be found only in the shadows of society. Known for their crime, ever growing debt and depression. This  stereotype is wrong, the concrete jungle can be used to describe any area of town. We, in our town, can even be called this. Thats because the name does not necessarily mean a ghetto, or the hood, it means a place of despair, or depression. A place with no escape. Now picture a sidewalk covered with these cracks, and they look as infinite as the sidewalk itself. This represents our society, a world of cracks. Examples of these cracks are broken homes, war torn cities, and even  ignorant towns. But there is an exception to this endless cracked sidewalk, because sometimes grass and weeds pop out of these cracks. A tiny bit of resilient life, sprouting out of the concrete jungle. This represents the people that make it out. Weeds and grass make it out of the despair, the underdogs. The little bits of life, usually thought nothing of, are the very ones who are doing what they have to do to not just live, but to thrive! Theres a class of people in our world that can be described by this process. In the plant kingdom, the “fighters” are considered resilient and strong. In our society, these people are considered evil, cuniving, and rebellious. Even antagonists. That's true oppression. For those who are able to make it out of the dark cracks of the world, it does not come easy. But there's a better class of people who also come from the cracks. This is a person who is strong, yet delicate. A person who is beautiful inside and out, despite coming from where they started. The equivalent to this in the plant kingdom, would be the rose that grew from the sidewalk. To be the envy of your fellows plants; Your fellow products of the despair. To be the one, that sprung up unscathed; The one that stayed true, and made it. The people who didn't stay true, who didn't make it unscarred, don't are just happy to be there alive and living. But it's the rose that  grew from the cracks in the sidewalk, who is really the survivor.

Weeks on top of weeks of being home, weared on me. I had to get out of the house. I decided that I would take my dog, Skipper Walter the Third, to Petco. I strapped him to his leash after getting out of the car, and he was excited! I had a little money after Christmas so I decided I would treat him to a little extra fun. First, i took him to the Petco groomers. He is a pure bred white Maltese, and his fur is very thick and curly so its a hassle to groom him! They gave him a bath, trimmed his hair, and even clipped his nails! Good thing they were professionals because he is hard to manage sometimes! Then, we went to the toy aisle, and he was losing it! Sniffing and carrying toys everywhere. The sound of squeaks and honks filled the isle. He finally decided to take a elongate, orange, ferret-like creature and he didn't wanna let it leave his jaws clench! After that ordeal I took him to the treats! I let him try and sniff a few and I think he liked the chicken flavored treats the best. I also picked out some treats made to freshen his breath and clean his teeth. I scooped a pounds of the treats into the plastic bag and went to pay. Skipper didn't wanna breath without his new toy! The sound the toy emitted drove me crazy! It was crazy how long that dog could bite that thing! From the time he woke up till the time he went to sleep he had that thing in his mouth. He could even eat treats and have that thing in his mouth! He seemed to manage his time very well between his toy, and his treats, and food, and water! He might even like it more than me! My other dogs tried grabbing it and running off with it but he was always quick to retrieve it from his “foes”. He ran and wagged his tail all day and night! I swear he must have thought that the thing was living! The orange squeaky creature has captured his attention thats for sure, and he has already taken quite a beating! All the slobber, chewing, tugging, and practically eating has broke him in but i'm sure he will live to see a few more years. All together, i think the spa treatment, the treats, and the toy really made him happy. Although it's annoying I love him and I think he was glad that I treated him to those late Christmas presents. I think maybe his tail wags a little faster now, and it will for years to come.
